The Hear the Children's Cry Committee is an
advocacy group committed to the wellbeing and
welfare of Jamaica's children. It is an umbrella
group whose members are agencies serving children
and youth. Membership is also open to the
participation of any citizen or resident of Jamaica,
or any member of the Jamaican Diaspora, who shares
similar concerns and interests.
The Committee was launched in 2002, in direct
response to a heartbreaking and alarming complex of
crises which continue to face Jamaican children.
Thousands of Jamaican youngsters continue to be the
victims of violent crimes, to be traumatized by
witnessing murder and other violent acts in their
homes and communities. They continue to be abused in
many homes, and to suffer from neglect, abandonment,
homelessness and exploitation by criminals, from
abuse by uncaring and/or uninformed care givers, and
from injustices resulting from inadequate and often
inept essential national services.
The Hear the Children’s Cry Committee is Jamaica's
most vocal advocacy group. Since its inception it
has organized a series of high profile national
events, maintains a vibrant media advocacy programme,
has designed and continues to carry out a number of
innovative programmes. These include an island- wide
Parenting Education Outreach, the Prevent A Drop Out
Programme being piloted for schools with sponsorship
from RBTT Bank, and most recently, the Missing
Children’s Support Programme with initial
sponsorship from Jamaica Yellow Pages, and National
Youth Help Projects, focusing on training and
employment for vulnerable youth, in partnership with
the Kiwanis Club of East Kingston and Port Royal...
